The highly effective Roller Barrier anti climb system is typically installed by professional installers. But there are many situations and circumstances in which those with basic DIY skills can carry out their own installations. The latest 90 second video from Insight Security demonstrates how simple it is to extend the length of a Roller Barrier run along with options for safely and securely terminating the run at each end.
The term ‘Roller Barrier Run’ refers to a straight length of Roller Barrier, typically installed to provide anti climb protection along a boundary, rooftop or other structure. Rotating Roller Barrier cups are loosely mounted on a central shaft, supported by brackets at regular intervals.
The video demonstrates how simple it is to securely join together lengths of Roller Barrier shaft using spigots, to achieve the desired length of Roller Barrier run.
Secure Roller Barrier Run Termination
Once the shaft is mounted on the installed brackets, with Roller Barrier cups along its length, it is then necessary to securely terminate the run to prevent dismantling. Two optional methods are described in the video.
The first method uses a standard end fixing kit consisting of a large diameter washer, bolt and sheer nut. This termination method requires the drilling of a hole, through the shaft, around 10mm from the end. The large diameter washer is then slipped onto the shaft before inserting the bolt through the drilled hole. The conical shear nut is then used to secure bolt and tightened until the hexagonal nut section shears off. This leaves a secure, tamper proof end fixing.
The second end termination option is to use the popular Shefal end fixing. This end-fixing method doesn’t require any holes to be drilled in the Roller Barrier shaft. The Shefal collar simply slips onto a 20 to 25mm protruding section of the shaft and is secured in place using the pig nose security screw in the collar. Once tighted, the collar is covered with a flexible cap end to provide a smart finish.
